Experimental analysis of shock waves turbulence in contractions with rectangular sections
Formation of shock waves has an important role in supercritical flows studies. These waves are often occurring during passage of supercritical flow in the non-prismatic channels. In the present study, the effect of length of contraction wall of open-channel for two different geometries (1.5 m and 0.5 m) and fixed contraction ratio was investigated on hydraulic parameters of shock waves using ex...
متن کاملTravelling waves in a straight square duct
Isothermal, incompressible flow in a straight duct with square cross-section is known to be linearly stable [1]. Direct numerical simulation, on the other hand, has revealed that turbulence in this geometry is self-sustained above a Reynolds number value of approximately 1100, based on the bulk velocity and the duct half-width [2]. Numerous non-linear equilibrium solutions have already been ide...
متن کاملThe shock waves in decaying supersonic turbulence
We here analyse numerical simulations of supersonic, hypersonic and magnetohydrodynamic turbulence that is free to decay. Our goals are to understand the dynamics of the decay and the characteristic properties of the shock waves produced. This will be useful for interpretation of observations of both motions in molecular clouds and sources of non-thermal radiation. We find that decaying hyperso...
متن کاملThree-dimensional traveling waves in a square duct.
A nonlinear streamwise traveling-wave solution is obtained by homotopy for square duct flow. For a particular symmetry of the perturbations, this wave comes into existence at about Re(b)=600 (based on half-duct width and bulk speed) for a streamwise wave number alpha=0.85 . The resulting four-vortex mean flow resembles the transitional flow structures observed in previous simulations.
متن کاملThe distribution of shock waves in driven supersonic turbulence
Supersonic turbulence generates distributions of shock waves. Here, we analyse the shock waves in threedimensional numerical simulations of uniformly driven supersonic turbulence, with and without magnetohydrodynamics and self-gravity. We can identify the nature of the turbulence by measuring the distribution of the shock strengths. We find that uniformly driven turbulence possesses a power law...
